Epic Fantasy
A Song of Ice and Fire Books in Order
by George R.R. Martin
Noble families clash for the Iron Throne while an ancient threat stirs beyond the Wall. The basis for HBO's Game of Thrones.
About the series
George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire is the sprawling epic that inspired HBO's Game of Thrones. Set on the continents of Westeros and Essos, it follows the families of the Seven Kingdoms as they vie for the Iron Throne, while a forgotten threat builds beyond the Wall and the last Targaryen heir trains her dragons across the Narrow Sea.
Recommended reading order
Read the five main novels in publication order. Two further volumes — The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring — are still forthcoming and have no firm release date. The companion novellas (the Dunk and Egg stories, set roughly 90 years earlier) and Fire & Blood (a Targaryen history) can be read at any time but are most rewarding after A Dance with Dragons.
