Recommended reading order
Read the four main novels in order: Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr, Inheritance. (The series was originally planned as a trilogy; Brisingr was split off mid-writing.) The companion volume The Fork, the Witch, and the Worm collects three short stories set after the main cycle and is best read last.
