The Chronicles of Narnia Books in Order

by C.S. Lewis

Children stumble into the magical land of Narnia, where they meet the lion Aslan and confront forces of evil across centuries of its history.

About the series

C.S. Lewis's The Chronicles of Narnia are seven children's fantasy novels published between 1950 and 1956. Children from our world stumble into the magical kingdom of Narnia — through a wardrobe, a painting, a railway station — and meet the great lion Aslan, who guides them through centuries of Narnian history.

Recommended reading order

There are two camps. Publication order (starting with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe) preserves the wonder of discovering Narnia for the first time alongside the Pevensie children. Chronological order (starting with The Magician's Nephew) places the books in their internal timeline. Most longtime readers — and Lewis's original publisher — prefer publication order; this site lists them that way.
