About the series
Kristin Hannah is an American novelist whose career spans three decades and more than 25 books, evolving from early paranormal and contemporary romances into sweeping, emotionally devastating works of historical and women's fiction. She is best known for The Nightingale (2015), a WWII novel about two French sisters in the Resistance that became one of the bestselling novels of the decade, and The Great Alone (2018), set in the Alaskan wilderness. Her recent novels — The Four Winds (2021), The Women (2024) — confirm her place among the most important storytellers in American popular fiction.
Recommended reading order
Hannah's novels are almost entirely standalones — each can be read independently. The only true series is Firefly Lane (Firefly Lane + Fly Away), which follows a lifelong friendship and should be read in order. For new readers, start with The Nightingale or The Great Alone for her very best work, then explore backward through her catalog. Her early romances (1991–2006) are lighter in tone than her post-2008 work and can be approached separately. Another Life (2023) is a re-release of her 2004 novel The Things We Do for Love under a new title.
