About the series

Jan Karon is an American author of Christian fiction who created one of the most beloved small-town fictional universes in modern literature: Mitford, a cozy North Carolina mountain village presided over by Episcopal priest Father Tim Kavanagh and his community of eccentric, warm-hearted neighbors. Beginning with At Home in Mitford (1994), the series became a publishing phenomenon, drawing readers who love gentle humor, faith, community, and the quiet drama of ordinary life lived well.

Recommended reading order

The Mitford Years novels (books 1–9, plus My Beloved in 2025) form the core series and should be read in publication order, as they follow Father Tim's ongoing life, marriage, and ministry in strict chronological sequence. The Father Tim sub-series (Home to Holly Springs, In the Company of Others) serves as a two-book spin-off set during Father Tim's travels after Mitford and is best read after the main series concludes with Light from Heaven (2005). Gift books, children's books, and the cookbook are optional companions and can be enjoyed at any point.
