Books of the Bible Books in Order
by Various
The 66 books of the Protestant Christian Bible, spanning the Old and New Testaments, written by dozens of authors over more than a millennium. Together they form the foundational scripture of Christianity, encompassing law, history, poetry, prophecy, letters, and apocalyptic vision.
About the series
The Books of the Bible are the 66 texts that make up the Protestant Christian canon, ranging from the ancient poetry of the Psalms and the laws of the Pentateuch to the apocalyptic visions of Revelation. Written over more than a thousand years by dozens of authors across vastly different literary genres — law, history, prophecy, poetry, letters, and narrative — they form the foundational scripture of Christianity and remain among the most widely read and translated texts in human history.
Recommended reading order
The traditional canonical order (Genesis through Revelation) is the standard arrangement and works well for systematic study. First-time readers, however, often find it more engaging to start with the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) to encounter the New Testament narrative before circling back to Genesis and the Old Testament. Another popular approach is to begin with shorter, self-contained books — such as Ruth, Jonah, or the Gospel of Mark — before tackling longer works like Psalms, Isaiah, or the Epistles of Paul.
